Volkswagen has released a teaser for the new Polo. This sixth-generation hatchback will make its debut on 16 June at an event in Berlin, Germany.
The teaser of the Polo previews the tail lamp design, shoulder line and to some extent the alloy wheel design of the hatchback. The 2018 Volkswagen Polo will ditch the PQ25 platform in favour of an MQB chassis. This should make the new Polo more spacious while cutting down on the weight and manufacturing costs. The design of the new Polo is more of an evolution, with signature VW elements like the grille and silhouette being retained. However, the headlamps now get LED DRLs and the lines are sharper to give it an aggressive look.
Inside, it gets a new infotainment system and a slew of creature comforts. Under the hood, the new Polo will get an array of three-cylinder and four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines. The transmission options would include a five-speed manual or a six-speed unit. The automatic variants will continue with the seven-speed dual-clutch DSG unit.
The new Polo is an important car for the Indian market as it also forms the host for the a few other models like the Ameo, Vento and the Cross Polo. We can expect the new Polo to be showcased during the 2018 Auto Expo, though it might be mid-2018 before the hatchback goes on sale in India.
