Jaipur: The automobile market has received a lull response on Dhanteras on Tuesday. The effect of demonetization and GST has reduced the sale of bikes and cars to half till the sales lasted late in the evening.
Rahul Balodiya, manager Car sales at KP Automotive at Bani Park admits that sales have nosedived. “Last year we had sales over 100 but this year the final tally is close to 62 cars,” said Balodiya.
Balodiya’s views were echoed by the most of the car dealers who didn’t expect the market to react so poorly. A two wheeler showroom on MI Raod has sales of his bikes less than half. He says, “The demonetization and GST has affected the personal disposable income of buyers. Only those who have a need for a vehicle has purchased while a category of customers who buys due to custom has not purchased it.”
The buyers are evaluating the market situation and have not showed any interest in purchasing. “My business has fallen down by 30% since the GST has implemented. I planned to purchase a new car this Dhanteras by selling my old one. However, I dropped the idea as I am not aware downfall in my sales will last till long,” said Ankit Goyal, who runs wholesale business of spices.
